Stevie Wonder-3-819x1024Stevie Wonder, who had left MoTown in 1970 to record two albums for himself, was shocked to learn this. Berry Gordy was shocked when Stevie Wonder told him this. Berry Gord accepted Stevie Wonder's request to have more freedom and control of his creativity over all his songs. In 1972, Stevie Wonder returned to MoTown records and signed a 13 million dollar deal with MoTown Records. This granted Stevie Wonder to a higher royalty and greater creative control as well as the right to his own music, that very few artists had at that time period. The agreement permitted Wonder's songs as well as videos to talk about controversial subjects like war, poverty, drugs and politics. The first album Wonder made available under the new arrangement with MoTown was, Music Of My Mind in 1972. Talking Book was Stevie Wonder's album in late 1972. It is still an important piece of music. This album contained Superstition which was the top-rated hit single.
