Cynthia's professional career started with her move into New York in order to become a fashion designer. Her first contract was for five years working with Wihelmina Models. This led to her appearing featured on the cover of Essence Magazine. Cynthia's Essence first cover not only became one of its most selling covers, it also became Susan Taylor's favorite. Then, Cynthia booked her second cover. This set the mood for her career success. After that, she relocated into Paris and Milan in which she appeared walking the runways at Paris Fashion Week and Milan Fashion Week. Cynthia spent almost a whole year living abroad. After her return she was a huge hit. She was hired to create advertising in the name of Maybelline Oil of Olay Macy's. Vogue editorials followed, along together with Glamour magazine, Elle, Essence Vanity Fair and Glamour. Cynthia had a career highlight after she was chosen over Naomi Campbell as Sandra Bernhadt's co-star in "Without You I Am Nothing".
